Is there anything more heart-warming and inviting than a home-baked pie? Is there anything more satisfying to the home baker than a perfect, beautiful pie baking in the oven? Is there anything more homey and comforting than the smell of a freshly baked pie cooling on a rack?
We don't think so, either!

Every now and again Grandma runs across a book that surprises her. That was exactly the case with Ana and Ada Palles' From the Bakery of Afternoon Tea: Book of Pies. This is a lovely book, chock full of recipes for American classics, many of them pies that have been favorites at Grandma's for many a year! Some of these recipes are new to me - and enticing - but others are old favorites I can vouch for whole heartedly. The Key Lime Pie is identical to mine, Strawberry Rhubarb varies just a teeny bit, and the Alabama Pecan Pie identical to the ones that I turn out every Thanksgiving, even if we are Carolina girls!
You'll find a variety of chocolate pies, one for every taste, chess pies, sweet potato and pumpkin pies and even an eggnog pie. There is an interactive Table of Contents listing every recipe and pictures for each recipe too. My favorite though is the recipe for Coconut Custard Pie, identical to the one my Grandma made years ago.
I found only two little things that need improvement. Ana and Ada forgot to mention blind baking of single crust pie shells and omitted mention of moistening the edge of the bottom crust to seal the edges before you crimp two crust pies in order to insure a good, leak-proof seal.
Very nice job, one Grandma is happy to give two thumbs up to! Highly recommended.

I LOVE this pie recipe book. Everything I have made has been wonderful. The photos are beautiful, the hints are great and the story of the authors is as sweet as the recipes. I love that it is on my iPad! You cannot go wrong with this book if you want to make a pie that everyone will rave about!
Great product ,Great vendor
I am not a good cook. This book shows you step by step what things are and what to do. If you want to learn to make a good pie this book is great.
Thank you for sharing your secrets and your joy in cooking. This is a beautiful book with some pie recipes that I have never seen but can't wait to try. Always adding lemon juice to my apple pie is now history! Thank You!!
The authors invite you into the world of loving others through good food. They really encourage even the novice baker to attempt a homemade pie crust. I enjoyed the anecdotes and generosity expressed in sharing their delicious recipes with the world.
This lovely book is a pie-lover's dream and is a must for your cookbook collection. The photographs beautifully hint at what sweet deliciouness awaits. The instructions and techniques are straightforward. The easy-to-follow recipes call for basic pantry staples and readily found, simple ingredients that are magically transformed into mouthwatering delights. I'm so glad this book came out just in time for the holidays. Many of these pies will certainly grace my dinner table in the months to come. Thank you, ladies, for sharing your wonderful recipes.
From the Bakery of Afternoon Tea Book of Pies cookbook by authors Ada Palles and Ana Palles is a delightfully written cookbook filled with plenty of color photos and recipes. The photos are a true selling point as they are gorgeous. The writing is pretty good too. The reason why I rated their cookbook with three stars is the majority of the fruit or berry based recipes use alcohol without suggestions on what you could substitute if you choose to not use alcohol in baking. You will find some of the following recipes in their cookbook
Apple Pie (use white wine or liqueur)
Blueberry Pie (uses white wine)
Mount Vernon Cherry Pie (uses white wine)
Shaker Lemon Pie (no alcohol in this recipe)
Chocolate Chip Walnut Pie
Maple Pecan Pie
Eggnog Pie
Key Lime Pie
There is an interactive table of contents making navigation easy.
Recommend with caveats given.
